Hunt Test
Advanced Gun Dog Program / Hunt Test Competitions
Let's talk about Hunt tests.
During the Fall and Spring seasons, we participate in American Kennel Club (AKC) and Hunting Retriever Club (UKC) sponsored Hunt Tests. The tests give your dog opportunity to further their education and compete with dogs of equal level. The reward title additions to your dog's registered name (AKC and UKC) and cumulative of points (UKC).
We have been running and competing in hunt tests for over 30 years and have a very high success rate with the dogs we compete. We take smaller crews to the events and are dedicated to your dog's success. It's not about the numbers but the success and the learning experience with each dog. All dogs are taught and trained by Matt and not a series of trainers.
Hunt tests are also a way to keep your dog at the top of their game during the hunting off season. Plus, they are downright fun. Where else can you go to meet people that love their dogs and love the sport of hunting. If you are interested in knowing what a hunt test is all about, then go to one. They are open to the public. A hunt test is an all-day event, so bring snacks, dress for the weather, and don't wear white.
In the advanced program we learn more complicated marking and blind set ups.
(such as doubles, triples, diversion, honoring, and more technical marking and blind concepts). While they are learning all the above, they are putting their skills to use in a competitive field.
We do encourage breaks when it's not hunt test season. Just like finely tuned athletes, they need breaks to be a hunting and family dog.
Many of our hunt test dogs are also hunting dogs/family companions. We do NOT require them to stay with us and just run hunt tests, we want them hunting as well.
Below is our hunt test schedule and results for the current season.
You may also visit the Hunting Retriever Club to find more Retriever Clubs in your area. www.huntingretrieverclub.org or www.akc.org (AKC site)
Being a smaller facility, we are dedicated to the success of your dog in the hunt tests. Over the course of our years in training, we have titled many dogs in various levels of competitions.
