Advanced Gun Dog Program / Hunt Test Competitions

During the Fall and Spring seasons, we participate in AKC and UKC/HRC Hunt Tests. These events give your dog the opportunity to further their education alongside dogs at the same level, earn titles (AKC/UKC), and accumulate points (UKC). We’ve been competing for over 30 years with a strong record of success—taking smaller crews and focusing on each dog’s learning and performance. All dogs are taught and trained by Matt, not a series of trainers.

Why Hunt Tests?

Hunt tests keep dogs sharp in the off-season and they’re a lot of fun—great people, great dogs, and a great community. If you’re curious, go watch one. They’re open to the public. Plan for a full day, bring snacks, dress for the weather, and avoid wearing white.

Advanced Program Focus
  • More complex marking and blind setups
  • Doubles, triples, diversion birds, and honoring
  • Technical water & advanced terrain work
  • Applying skills in competitive, real-world scenarios

We encourage healthy breaks when it’s not hunt test season—just like athletes, dogs need time to reset and enjoy life as hunting partners and family companions. Many of our hunt test dogs are also active hunting dogs and family pets. We don’t require dogs to stay with us solely for competitions.
